Halloween-Esque Teas.

pumpkin chai

One of my habits is that when I get tea, I want to drink them all immediately. There is no way I could drink all of those teas right away, but I had two this morning and I’m drinking one now. After I ate my breakfast, I slowly sipped Pumpkin Chai. I could taste the cloves right away as well as a little bit of the caramel. The caramel is usually never strong tasting in any of the teas that I have had, but as long as there’s a hint of it there, I’m happy. I found that this tea wasn’t very strong, which is good, but it wasn’t strong enough in my opinion. It’s a very light tasting tea that is far from the Tazo Chai Tea, which has a stronger taste to it. Pumpkin Chai isn’t bad, it’s actually quite good! I just prefer certain teas to taste a certain way.

I could definitely taste the cinnamon and cloves with a hint of caramel. I couldn’t taste the pumpkin or the carrot, I think the pumpkin candies and the caramel actually help lighten the tea so it’s not so overpowering like some other chai teas that I have tasted (from the grocery store).

Whenever I try new tea, I always use honey or sugar with nothing else added to it. This allows me to get a full range of all the flavors in the tea before I decide if I want to add something else in it. For example, with this tea, I might add a touch bit more cinnamon in it next time and I would prefer it in a latte. I think that this tea would be best as a latte rather than just a tea on its own. There’s just something about frothy milk that changes the flavor completely and this is definitely a tea to try as a latte. All in all, if I could give this a rating out of ten, I’d probably give it as a 6. It’s not a tea that I’m in love with, but it’s definitely a nice change from the same old, same old. It’s one of those specialty teas that I would definitely love to see David bring back every year for the season.

If you’re not a fan of strong clove-tasting teas, then this is one that you should try. It’s not overpowering at all, but light thanks to the pumpkin candies and the caramel!

peanut butter cup

The second tea I had this morning was Peanut Butter Cup. This tea smells pretty darn delicious. It smells exactly like a peanut butter cup! But does it measure up to the mouth-watering taste of a peanut butter cup? Yes and no. It tastes like a peanut butter cup without all the sugar. In better words, it’s a healthy version of a peanut butter cup. That’s not to say that it tastes “bad” like a lot of other healthier options out there. It tastes great, the best part is that you can adjust the sweetness level yourself! You can’t do that with a real peanut butter cup! It’s a bonus! I like that it tastes similar to the delectable chocolate without the calories and that I can adjust the sweetness myself. The “peanutty” flavor is definitely present, you can taste it right away. The surprising part is that it is…*gasp* actually PEANUT FREE! Yes, even David went peanut free! It’s amazing how the tea tastes like peanuts, yet it’s made with almonds, chocolate, cocoa, safflower, and even bits of apple!

I’m a little undecided about trying this tea as a latte, but perhaps it will taste good! I might try it later on sometime, but for now, it’s amazing just the way it is! On a scale of 1-10, I’d probably give this tea an 8. I’m not completely in love with it, but I could definitely drink this all year round. It would satisfy my craving of chocolate…in the mornings. At night, well, that’s a different story…

cranberry

The third tea that I tried today was Cranberry Orange Muffin. To be honest, I was really put off by the smell. I’m not sure what it is about it, but there’s just something that didn’t smell appealing to me. However, after steeping the tea and putting some honey in it, it’s not that bad. I can taste the cranberry, cinnamon, and orange peel, but I find that the orange peel’s flavor really overpowers everything else. Perhaps it’s only this cup of tea that I made, maybe if I make it again it’ll taste different; however, I find that the other flavors are lost as soon as I swallow. My tongue seems to absorb the orange peel flavor more than the other flavors, which is really sad, because this tea had so much potential. When it was in the bag it didn’t smell so great, but when it was steeping it smells exactly like a muffin that my mouth was watering. The mixture of cranberries with cinnamon and the touch of orange peel wafting in the air…There’s also dandelion root, pineapple, mango, beet sugar, orange pieces, and hibiscus.

If you’ve read all my other posts about tea, you’ll know that I adore hibiscus. It’s sour and packs a really hard punch in some teas (Queen of Tarts to name one), but I adore the flavor and that sour kick, especially in the morning! It’s like a cold shower when you’re tired, but for your mouth. “HELLO! Time to WAKE UP!” I’m normally not a fan of citrus teas, which might be why I’m not really too keen on this one, but it really does smell delicious! On the scale, I’d probably give this one a 4.5. Good smell (while steeping), good combination of ingredients, but my poor tongue does not like being left with the orange peel taste in my mouth.

Isn’t it funny how we all taste different things? Some people will probably LOVE this tea, others not so much. If you love citrus tea and like the taste of oranges, then this might be something that you would like! You never know if you’ll like something until you try it!

Happy steeping!

Berry Poppins and Bear Trap

spring collectionLet’s get this tea party started! So yesterday I decided to get myself an early birthday present. I ran out of Mother’s Little Helper and I was impatiently waiting for the points email, lucky me, the email went out that morning without my knowledge. For some reason my iPod and my desktop mail didn’t receive the email until I got home. Nonetheless, I was able to pick up my free 200 grams of tea. The girls I see always joke I should just work there, haha. My birthday is also tomorrow, so I treated myself to a birthday present. What better gift than the gift of tea? David’s Tea, to be exact! I picked up “The Spring Collection” box. It comes in a very prettily decorated box of light green and blue with a picture of white dandelions on the front cover. How spring-ish, huh? It’s cute and fun! The box comes with the collection of 5 teas: 2 herbal (Berry Poppins, Melon Drop), 2 white (White Nectarine and Elderflower Spritz), and one black tea (Strawberry Fields). To complete the tea box set, it also comes with 20 tea filters.

BerryPoppins

Of course, as always, as soon as I got home I couldn’t wait to try one of the new teas. So I tried Berry Poppins, because it smelled so delicious my mouth actually started watering. Man, oh man, this tea is absolutely DELICIOUS. It has blackberry, hibiscus, apple, rosehips, orange peel, rose petals and cream flavoring. It smells delicious before and after it’s steeped. It tastes just as delicious, if not more, than it smells. It’s rich and creamy. The texture in my mouth reminds me of Mint to Be, the first tea by David that I instantly fell in love with and is my number one tea. The best thing about Berry Poppins is, no, not the name, although the name is pretty awesome, but the fact that it’s caffeine free. You mean I can have a velvety delicious fruity tea that’s caffeine free?! You bet! This guy is a GENIUS. I’m so sad that I only discovered this tea place only 4 months ago! How did I not notice? I always saw Teavana in the malls, I tried it a couple of times and was always disappointed, but David’s Tea? HELLO. Can I just LIVE in the store? If any products slowly go missing, that’ll be the me trying everything. Oh wait, haven’t I almost tried everything in the store? Yep, just about. Oh, if you happen to LOVE this tea as much as I do, they come in really cute collectible tins that are shaped like flower pots. What’s not to love? Another cool thing, this one has ladybugs all over the tin! I feel like spring is one step closer now.

bear trapThe other tea I tried today isn’t from the box, but it’s been on the menu for a while. At least, I THINK it has. Don’t forget, I’m still new to David’s Tea. It’s called Bear Trap. It also smells good! I admitted  before that there are times I’m really reluctant to try teas because I’m pretty picky sometimes. Okay, most of the time, so even though it smelled good, I was praying to the tea gods that this would taste just as amazing. I mean, come on, look at the ingredients: blackcurrants, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, elderberries, apples, rosehips, hibiscus, raisins, lemon verbena, papaya, cherries, blueberries…what bear wouldn’t love this tea? I think my mouth exploded when I taste this tea. I’m drinking it right now, actually, every time I take a sip I feel like I just got blown away by all the berry goodness. That’s a good thing, of course. This tea is perfectly balanced between all the ingredients. It’s BERRY DELICIOUS. Yes, that B is supposed to be there, it’s word play my dear, and David’s Tea is pretty darn good at it when they name their teas. If you don’t believe me, check out the website and see for yourself: David’s Tea.

I did try a couple of sips of White Nectarine, but I made it for my dad, who absolutely LOVED it. Actually, since my dad’s birthday is also tomorrow, I might have to stop by the store and pick up a big tin of it for him. From the sips that I tried while making my dad’s tea, my first thought was: wow, this would make an AWESOME iced tea. Of course, I want to wait until I actually brew myself my own pot of it before I post a review, but hopefully by the end of the weekend I’ll have a review for the hot and iced version of it! Stay tuned fellow teaholics! Until the next post, steep on!

Chocolate Rocket, Goji Pop, Toasted Walnut, Redberry Tonic, Berry Refreshing

Chocolate-Rocket

With chocolate, yerba mate, cocoa, almonds, roasted chicory root, and raspberries, this tea is quite amazing. It smells absolutely delicious and it TASTES just like it smells: delicious. This is definitely one of my favorite teas that I love to bring to work with me on a day that I need a boost. It gives me extra energy from the yerba mate but without the caffeine crash later in the day. It’s not too strong and it’s definitely not sweet (unless you add too much sugar/honey). This is definitely on my favorites list of teas.

goji

The name says it all, it’s full of: goji berries, hibiscus, rosehips, honeydew melon, marigold petals, lemon oil, and apple. This is a tea that is not exactly my favorite, but it’s definitely one that I like to drink every now and then. I love teas with hibiscus in it as well as apple, so how can I not like this one? It’s perfect for the times that I’m working late and need something to pick me up without caffeine in it. Plus, goji berries are supposed to be very good for you.

Next up is a green tea called Toasted Walnut. This tea is nutty and sweet and light thanks to the dried pineapple, coconut, almond, and nut brittle. The green tea is Chinese Sencha and I find that if you like a lighter flavored green tea, this one is probably it for you. It’s not too strong, it’s light and the pineapple and coconut are what keep me going back for more. However, I usually like my green tea stronger, so this tea is one that I don’t often drink. I usually drink it on those cold days that I feel like a “cozy” drink. So this one and Movie Night are definitely my “cozy” caffeinated teas that I turn to.

My next favorite tea is Redberry Tonic. It’s probably second when placed with Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait, but it’s definitely another favorite tea of mine for sure. It has lots of good things in it such as: hibiscus, rosehips, lemongrass, goji berries, sea buckthorn, and apple. This tea is a  beautiful color when steeped, it smells amazing and it also tastes amazing. When I am feeling tired after work and I just want to relax, I usually reach for either this tea or Strawberry Rhubarb. It’s one of those herbal teas that just makes me feel better and more relaxed. I love coming home to this tea, grabbing a book, and snuggling into my armchair with a blanket with this tea.

Berry Refreshing

Last, but not least, is Berry Refreshing. This tea contains aronia berries, which are a superfruit, it also contains elderberries, barberries, lemongrass, black currants, blackberry leaf, and hibiscus. I usually drink this tea after I workout and have a shower, I’m not sure why, but there’s just something about this tea that seems to fit perfectly into that order. It’s relaxing, it’s super fruity and punchy like, but very tasty. I find that even though this tea is herbal, it somehow gives me that extra punch to finish what I’m doing for the day. I also like to drink this tea when I’m editing, it gives me a kind of kick that I need to keep going until the finish line, without the caffeine of course.

I’ve been behind reviewing the teas that I do have, but I think now I’m all caught up! I haven’t bought any new teas except for Berry Refreshing lately, only replenishing the teas that I was running low on. However, since my birthday is this Thursday, I’ll probably stop by and pick up some other teas to try…

I’ve tried pretty much ALL the herbal teas, minus the new spring collection and the tea of month for April, and the limited edition box containing some of the old spring teas.

Guava Cadabra

guava-cadabra

Guava Cadabra is definitely a fruity flavored tea. It consists of manga, guava, apple, hibiscus blossom, elderberries, beetroot, and rosehips. The tea has a beautiful pink color, it smells sweet and exotic and the taste is tart but sweet at the same time. It’s a tea that after my first sip, I immediately knew that it was a keeper. It’s funny how sometimes you smell a tea and think that it’s going to taste amazing, only to be utterly disappointed because it doesn’t taste the way you thought it was going to. I have tried a lot of teas at David’s Tea and there are many that I don’t like, but this is definitely one of the teas that I will be going back to time and time again!

I especially like this tea for the winter. The days that are snowy, dark, foggy, cold, and just downright depressing. The bright pink color gives my grey surroundings a splash of color, the exotic fruity taste of the tea allows me to escape and forget that I am living in a cold country and city during the winter months. I can curl up on my couch and read a good book, escaping into a world full of possibilities and kept warm thanks to this tea!

Read My Lips, but Since You Can’t See Them, Read My Words.

read-my-lipsAfter trying Red Velvet Cake, Love Tea #7, Glitter and Gold, and Fantasy Island only to feel very frustrated and let down, I was reluctant to try Read My Lips. However, I decided to take the plunge and I bought a couple cups worth of this spectacular tea. The aroma is definitely peppermint and the little lip candies are definitely a cute finish. This tea has Chinese black tea, peppermint, chocolate, pink peppercorns, sprinkles, and vanilla. It reminds me of Mint to Be, probably because the main taste comes from peppermint, but the taste is oh-so-good. Not only is there CHOCOLATE, but there’s peppermint with an added sweetness from the candied lips. This is a tea that I could see myself drinking on a regular basis because it tastes so good. It’s also somewhat creamy in texture, which is another reason why it reminds me of Mint to Be.

All in all, this tea is a definite keeper in my books. The best part about this tea is that it tastes like a dessert, without the thousand calories to add to my waistline! Hurray!

Magical Dragons and Tea

magic dragonWhat happens when you mix dragonfruit, rosehips, hibiscus, apple, blackberry leaves and cornflower petals? Magic, that’s what. It’s no wonder they call this tea magic dragon! It has a very sweet and aromatic scent when you open the package, enough to make your mouth water. Well, okay, make MY mouth water at least. Add some hot water and let it steep and you have magic in a tea pot, or cup, or what have you.

When I found out that there was a tea with dragonfruit, I just HAD to try it. The moment the girl scooped some into a bag for me, I knew I was going to like it. Sure enough, later that night when I went home, I fell in love with it. It was a couple of weeks ago that I bought this tea, but I drank the last little bit I bought that day and fell in love with it all over again. Today I was feeling really crappy with a really bad headache and a lot of stress, but after drinking this tea, I feel a little bit better. Maybe it’s the tea, maybe it gave me the extra happiness I needed to stop stressing about other things for a few moments! Who knows? Doesn’t matter. This tea is DELICIOUS.

Eggnog Tea

DavidsTea-Eggnog

For Christmas, David’s Tea brought out a tea called “Eggnog.” I went to the store yesterday and picked some up. I admit, at first I was really reluctant to try it only because an eggnog tea sounded really disgusting. I only bought enough for one cup and as soon as I poured the water in, the white chocolate chips started to melt and the savory aroma drifted towards me, enveloping me in eggnog-goodness.

Now for the real test, the taste test. I did add a bit of sugar and milk to it, but it DOES actually taste like eggnog. Surprisingly, it’s not strong but the hint of flavor is enough to satisfy me without adding all the cholesterol, fat, and carbs that REAL eggnog gives you. It’s creamy, has a yellowish/whitish tinge to it and actually tastes GOOD.
